Riley didn't want to share his cake with Sven. Ha, ha. Just kidding. A great action shot of their wrestling - Brian has a fantastic camera.

Fantasy What?

So, I am playing Fantasy Football for the first time this year. I have no idea what I am doing except that Running Backs are good to draft. I think.

I need team name suggestions - all entries must poke fun at the Dallas Cowboys in some way. Ideas?

Crazy Dog Woman

Today, I crossed the line into the world of being a Crazy Dog Woman. I ordered Riley a doggy birthday cake for his birthday on Thursday. How did I justify this, you ask? We're dog sitting for a friend's dog so OF COURSE we need to celebrate Riley's birthday. Oh yeah, I also bought party hats. Crazy - that's me.

Handy Husband

Brian was quite the "Bob the Builder" this weekend - repairing lots of household items. We had a bit of a water leak issue a few weeks ago and after AAA came back and said they wouldn't pay to repair the problem, Brian the Builder quickly got to work. He redid the caulking on our whole bathtub, sealed the grout and started to patch a hole in the drywall. We now have our shower back which is FANTASTIC after almost a month of showering in the small guest bathroom shower. Thanks, Handy Husband!

Zucchini Bread Round 2

Since my zucchini bread was such a hit (and because I still have a ton of zucchini left), I've gone for round 2 - 3 loaves! This is my mother-in-law's recipe and it's delish! I hope my workmates aren't getting tired of my baked goods.

Book Club

I recently joined a book club with some friends here and the first book for me was "Shanghai Girls". Such a good book - pick it up and check it out! Gives a different perspective into WWII, immigrants, etc.

Squash on Steroids

When I picked Riley up at Danny's on Monday night, he had a ton of GIANT zucchini in his garden. Danny insisted I take a few home...no idea what to do with them, but tonight I made three loaves of zucchini bread. Maybe tomorrow we'll grill up the rest. Houdini also has about six cups of grated zucchini for food this week.

What IS this?

I don't know if this beauty even needs a post to accompany it. I snapped this photo while touring my Nonna's new private home....
It's super, isn't it?

Spoiled Pup

Here is a photo of a SPOILED DOG...that's him in our tent, on my sleeping bag, on the air mattress. Tsk, tsk....but man is he CUTE.

Labor Day 2K9

Today, I booked a campsite at the Grant Village Campground in Yellowstone National Park. Woohoo! We've lived only 8 hours away for three and half years and are just now finally going! Road trip for me, Brian and Riley for Labor Day weekend!

The Bread

About two and a half weeks ago, I went to Albuquerque for a girls weekend at Alia's house. Alia had a baggie full of creamy mush that we all questioned. She called it Amish Friendship Bread and said we'd make it while we were there. I definitely thought to myself, "nasty".
Fast forward a few hours and Alia is a little Betty Crocker in the kitchen and she's making the bread, but it turns out it's more like a cake - like pound cake or coffee cake. AND the best part is that it's a bundt cake. I love a bundt cake.

Let me tell you, this bread, this cake...was AMAZING! It's like a cross between coffee cake and spice cake and french toast. Soooo tasty.
I took home a starter (the baggie full of creamy mush) and have made two batches so far - passed along starters to the Katies and plan to bring the latest loaf to work tomorrow with more starters.

Who wants a starter?

On your mark...

Brian and I signed up today for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Denver. On October 4th, we'll be walking in memory of family friend Kathy Wheeler and in support of Brian's aunt, Sandy Crooks.
If you're local, come walk with us!!!

Farewell

Farewell to Kathy, an amazing woman! She battled what started as stage 4 breast cancer for six and a half years - what a battle! You will be missed, but never forgotten. You will live on forever in the memories you've created and left with those who love you.
